A Michigan City man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of operating while intoxicated and carrying a handgun without a license with a prior conviction. LaPorte County Police say they pulled over a vehicle for disregarding a stop sign at the intersection of Springland Avenue and Roeske Avenue, just after 12:30 a.m.

A search of the vehicle reportedly turned up “a Glock handgun and a partially consumed alcoholic beverage.” The driver, Branden J. Hewlett, 37, was taken to the Michigan City Police Department and then to the LaPorte County Jail.
