The Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation will be saying goodbye to a couple longtime staff members at the end of the school year. The school board recently accepted the retirements of Kate Daily and Dan Ruhl.
Superintendent Dara Chezem said Daily has been Winamac High School’s guidance director for 14 of her 31 years in public education. “This winter, Ms. Daily was awarded the MLK Award of Justice, which is so fitting as she is a voice of advocacy for both students and staff,” Chezem said. “She’s a strong proponent for our students’ mental health and often goes above and beyond for our students, seeking to support our students and connect them with resources, regardless of the time of day or day of week, when they reach out to her for help.”
Chezem said she’s also appreciated working with Daily in her capacity as Eastern Pulaski Teachers Association president, where Chezem said she’s been a strong advocate for teachers, both through bargaining and lobbying for better legislation.
Meanwhile, Ruhl retires after 33 years at Eastern Pulaski. “He’s done an outstanding job helping to keep our grounds and facilities in an impeccable condition,” Chezem said. “He’s also done a fantastic job on our athletic fields. It’s his responsibility to paint all the lines for all the sporting events. I will miss Mr. Ruhl’s positive personality and hope he finds time to come back and serenade us with song, and if you ever see him, you can ask him about that.”
Ruhl officially retires May 31, while Daily will retire on June 8.
