A man was found guilty in Pulaski Circuit Court Monday of multiple felony counts, after police say he pointed a gun at them while they were trying to serve an arrest warrant.
A jury convicted Markus W. Miller of resisting law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, along with a sentencing enhancement for pointing a firearm, according to the Pulaski County Prosecutor’s Office.
Officers testified that they tried to serve a felony arrest warrant, but Miller began running away. He then reportedly pointed a loaded gun at one of the officers, but it apparently malfunctioned. Police say they later found more bullets in Miller’s pockets and meth pipes and syringes in his property.
The Prosecutor’s Office says Miller faces a possible sentence of up to 22-and-a-half years in the Indiana Department of Correction, plus another five to 20 years, due to the sentencing enhancement. Sentencing is scheduled for May 28.
The Prosecutor’s Office says the warrant that was being served was related to a shooting in rural Medaryville in December of 2014. That case ultimately ended last year with Miller being acquitted of attempted murder.
