N.J.-S.P. School Board Approves Scoreboards, More Gym Improvements

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board has finalized more than $300,000 worth of additional building improvements with remaining bond money. Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin presented a list of bids to the board Tuesday.

“There’s already been a blanketed approval,” she explained. “When we did the lease-rental bonds, we knew what work we were going to do at the elementary, and we talked about and have talked about the projects we would do if there were excess funds. So in general, they have been approved, but I want to make sure that everybody understands what work we are doing and what companies are doing that work and what we’re spending that money on.”

The biggest expense is scoreboards and clocks for the gym and football field from Daktronics for almost $200,000. Prism Painting will work on the gym for a cost of $74,200, plus the nearby stairwell and athletic hallway for another $43,500. “If we do that, then everything in that athletic space is cohesive and done,” Zupin added.

Other gym upgrades include a sound system from TCP Technologies for just over $33,000 and railings from Craig Welding for more than $14,000. ServPro was selected for duct cleaning for just under $6,000. Go to duct cleaning Melbourne for more HVAC related services.

On top of that, Zupin said she’s expecting bids for asbestos work at the elementary school later this week, and she’s also looking into air quality and HVAC assessments. “It’s a good use of ESSERs and CARES money, and that would give us an idea of whether we have good quality air or if we need to look into that,” Zupin said.

She said the school board will have to take public comments on North Judson-San Pierre’s continuous learning plan next month, before the second and third rounds of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds may be spent. No changes are expected from the current plan.
