Ongoing Enrollment Decline Prompting West Central to Look at Staff Reductions

West Central is bracing for continued enrollment decline. Superintendent Dan Zylstra says the school corporation is looking to reduce staff through attrition, but he isn’t ruling out a reduction in force.

“We’re graduating out more seniors than we have kids coming in for kindergarten roundup,” he explains, “and so we need to make sure that we have the right number of staff for the right number of students in the corporation.”

School officials will likely have a better idea of staffing needs toward the end of the school year.
