Oregon-Davis students continue to benefit from the generosity of local residents, businesses, and organizations. The school board Monday accepted $25,000 in grant funding from the Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund. The grant came about after the school board took action last month to intercept state income tax refunds to collect unpaid fees, and the Hardesty Fund offered to pay off the entire debt instead.
On top of that, Oregon-Davis also brought in $2,000 in donations for athletics, mainly the baseball program. Superintendent Bill Bennett said the coaches have not only been helping to get donations, but they’re also putting in the labor to upgrade the facilities. “A lot of support for the baseball teams,” Bennett said. “The baseball field’s looking really nice. We’ve made it a lot safer, the appearance around it. The baseball team’s worked really hard.”
School Board Member Lee Nagai also thanked the Starke County Farm Bureau and Indiana Pork Producers for sponsoring next month’s third and fourth grade trip to Fair Oaks Farms. The field trip request itself was also approved by the school board.
