The Town of Winamac is looking to make the downtown area a little safer for pedestrians. Town Manager Brad Zellers recently discussed planned sidewalk and lighting upgrades with the town council.
He said the engineers recommended placing sidewalk bump-outs at the intersections of Main and Market, Pearl and Market, and Pearl and Logan. “For safety, they like to do bump-outs, as that’s less a pedestrian has to walk across the street” Zellers explained. “Semis will still be able to get around everything, no different than they do now. The parking, you shouldn’t lose any parking with the half bump-out.” But Zellers later said that one of the golf cart parking spaces near One Eyed Jack’s may be eliminated.
He said the bump-outs would also give those using wheelchairs more room to maneuver around the new light poles. Town council members agreed to use a smaller, half bump-out, to make sure trucks could still get through the area.
