The Starke County Park Board is considering the future of the Bass Lake Beach and Campground’s operations. “I don’t know if everyone knows, but we were informed earlier this month, maybe last month, I don’t know, that Mr. Callahan is deceased now, is my understanding,” Board President Richard Ballard told the rest of the board Tuesday.
Starke County owns the property, but a company called Callahan Development, LLC has a lease on it until 2028. The facility’s manager, Larry Clarich, told board members that the plan is to finish out the lease. He said Brian Callahan is the company’s president, while Clarich is also a representative.
Ballard said he’d like to have a couple board members meet with Callahan representatives to discuss some next steps. “Things are a little bit complicated, so I think we need to get together, the members of the board and members from Callahan’s corporation and discuss things and just see where we are at this point and where we’re going, okay?”
Park board members Kathy Norem and Rik Ritzler are expected to meet with them and then report back to the rest of the board.
