West Central students will be able to get expanded social and emotional support. The school board recently approved an agreement with Four County Counseling Center for a student services program, according to Superintendent Dan Zylstra.
“It’s an addendum to what we already have,” he explains. “We have some case managers that work in our building, and they provide student supports for kids. It’s at no cost to the district, and Four County does that in working with the families. This provides a little bit more finances from us, and then they’re going to be able to provide support for more of our students in a more broad way.”
Four County Chief Clinical Officer Nicole Hiatt-Drang told the Pulaski County Commissioners last week that the program helps remove insurance barriers for families. “We’re now able to provide, free, an intake and a couple of therapy services for students in your school at no cost to them and regardless of their insurance,” she said. “So we’re able to meet them in the school and help the schools focus on the education and let us really work on those behavioral health issues.”
Zylstra says the monthly cost to West Central will be 25 cents per student.
