The City of Knox is seeking almost $138,000 to help tear down the former Moose Lodge. The city council last week held a public hearing on an application for Blight Clearance Program funding through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
The city’s chances of actually getting the grant still remain to be seen. The Blight Clearance Program was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission Executive Director Edwin Buswell said he isn’t sure how many projects may be waiting in line.
No comments or concerns were offered from the public last week. Buswell said residents will have another chance to weigh in, before the full application is due in June. This round’s grant recipients are expected to be announced in August.
