Two hundred future Indiana teachers will get some help paying for college. The Next Generation Hoosier Educators scholarship provides up to $7,500 a year for students who commit to teaching in Indiana for at least five years after graduation. Among the recipients locally were Melaina Adcock and Preston Minix of Knox High School, Emma Shireman of North Judson-San Pierre High School, Jaxzee Marks of South Central High School, and Brenna Mckay and Lily Williams of West Central High School.
The 200 students selected for the fifth class of Next Generation Hoosier Educators were chosen from more than 400 applicants. To qualify, they had to either graduate in the top 20 percent of their high school class or score in the top 20th percentile on the SAT or ACT. To keep the scholarship, they’ll have to maintain a 3.0 GPA in college and complete at least 30 credit hours a year.
