The restructuring of Indiana’s Main Street program is already showing signs of success, according to Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch. The program provides downtown revitalization help for designated communities through grants, training sessions, and other resources.
Crouch says the COVID-19 pandemic has made the need even greater. “So being able to be refocused and being able to provide more assistance and support to our small, rural communities so that they can have vibrant Main Streets is starting to pay off in dividends and will continue into the future,” she says.
The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs recently split its Main Street designation into three levels, where the amount of support a community receives depends on how many requirements the organization is able to meet.
Knox Main Street United was one of the first organizations added into the new entry-level Downtown Affiliate Network. It joins existing Main Street programs in Culver, Plymouth, Bremen, and Francesville.
