New Starke County EMA Director Named

Starke County has a new emergency management agency director. Hannah Lueth has been offered the position, following the approval of the county commissioners Monday.

EMA Advisory Council Chair Dave Pearman said Lueth was a Starke County resident but has been away at the public safety academy. “So her training is directly relevant,” Pearman said. “She’s done some exercise. We’ve had a couple of meetings with her that I thought were very productive. This is on the top of her list, as far as her professional interest, post-college.”

Pearman said Lueth would start as a part-time employee at 30 hours per week. But the EMA Advisory Council could look at adding grant administration duties into the job description, to bump the position back up to full-time.

Lueth would replace Lewis Matzat, who resigned last month after county officials failed to move the position to full-time status. The one before that resigned amid a dispute over grant administration duties.
