The Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation is tightening restrictions on school fundraisers. A policy update was recently finalized by the school board, at the recommendation of Superintendent Dara Chezem.
“Changes to the policy include further limiting the sale of food items during the school day except with principal approval, developing a corporation calendar reflective of all fundraisers sponsored by school organizations for the year, allowing athletic teams to fundraise per the athletic department’s proposed guidelines, and limiting school organizations to one fundraiser per year unless otherwise approved,” Chezem explained.
At the same time, school officials have been able to bring in thousands of dollars worth of grants and donations in recent months. Industrial arts teacher Tom Elliott got $15,000 from the Subaru of Indiana Automotive Foundation, one of the largest single grants awarded by the foundation in its most recent cycle. “So along with the [Project Lead the Way] robotics supplies that he was purchasing, he’s also using it to purchase a CNC machine, to introduce students to advanced manufacturing practices,” Chezem added.
Chezem also reported that Elementary School Principal Jill Collins was able to get almost $12,000 from the United Way for social/emotional training and resources.
Additionally, the Class of 2018 is honoring the memory of a classmate who passed away this past April after a battle with leukemia. “The Class of 2018 would like to donate a bench and magnolia tree in memory of Haley Fox,” Chezem said. “Haley’s family has requested the bench be placed out near the football field facing the field in the area behind where the tickets are sold.”
That donation was formally accepted by the school board last month.
