Governor Holcomb’s trip to Israel last month apparently included a meeting with one of the companies behind Starke and Pulaski counties’ Mammoth Solar project. A press release sent on behalf of Israel-based renewable energy developer Doral Group says the governor had a chance to meet with the project’s Israeli stakeholders.

Mammoth Solar is being developed by Global Energy Generation, which is a joint venture between Doral and Clean Air Generation, LLC.

The developers say the project would generate enough power to serve half a million residents, create hundreds of construction jobs, and increase revenues for county government. But it’s also the subject of ongoing litigation and sometimes intense opposition during BZA and plan commission meetings.

In the press release, Mammoth Solar President & CEO Nick Cohen called the project an “economic uplift for the region,” and said the company is “glad to see the Governor supporting the local farmers and doing what he can to attract investment.”
