Knox School Board Cuts Three Teaching Positions

The Knox Community School Corporation has cut three teaching positions.

Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart says a reduction in force was approved by the school board Monday. “This is just one of the things that, when you have a reduction in enrollment, you have programs that aren’t quite as popular, in terms of what they used to be with student numbers, that we have to adjust, and this was an adjustment that we made,” Reichhart says.

On the reduction in force list were Middle and High School Assistant Band Teacher Jordan Black, High School Spanish Teacher Austin Heise, and High School English Teacher Hayley Windbigler. Reichhart says at least two of them have already found jobs at other schools.

Meanwhile, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Peggy Shidaker has had her job title changed to director of student services. “She’s been doing more grant writing and working with Redskin Academy and handling our homeless McKinney-Vento, ELL, and those type of things,” Reichhart notes.

He says the school board officially accepted the new job title during Monday’s meeting.
