The Knox Society of St. Vincent de Paul has gotten an extra $1,000 for its efforts to help community members with rent, utilities, and other expenses. It got a surprise popup grant last week from the Starke County Community Foundation.
Each month this year, a group of former community foundation board members is choosing a local nonprofit for a surprise $1,000 grant, in honor of the foundation’s 25th anniversary. Community Foundation Director of Development Jacque Ryan said in a press release that it’s amazing to be able to surprise organizations with much-needed support, after they work hard to secure funding on their own. The St. Vincent de Paul society told the community foundation that the number of people seeking assistance has increased as a result of the pandemic.
Previous popup grant recipients are Community Services of Starke County, the North Judson United Methodist Church Food Pantry, the Starke County Youth Club, and the Starke County 4-H Fair Board.
