The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to be on the lookout for scammers. Police say they got a report of a man dressed as a utility worker approaching an elderly Johnson Township resident while she was doing yard work.
The man allegedly “engaged her in a conversation that lasted an extended period of time.” Later, the resident reportedly noticed a large sum of money was missing, and the utility company said it hadn’t sent anyone.
The subject is described as a Caucasian man in his 40s, 5’8” tall with a medium build and gray hair. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Aaron Banic at 219-326-7700, ext. 2407 or abanic@lcso.in.gov.
