A man convicted of pointing a gun at police who were trying to serve an arrest warrant has been sentenced to 34-and-a-half years in the Indiana Department of Correction. Markus W. Miller was sentenced last week in Pulaski Circuit Court, according to Prosecutor Kelly Gaumer.
A jury had found him guilty of resisting law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, along with a sentencing enhancement for pointing a firearm. When police tried to serve an arrest warrant in June of 2019, Miller pointed a sawed-off pistol at a Pulaski County sheriff’s deputy and pulled the trigger, according to officers’ testimony, but it apparently malfunctioned.
Prosecutor Gaumer says Miller will serve 14-and-a-half years for the underlying felonies, plus another 20 for pointing the firearm at police. She says the community is safer, thanks to “the heroic acts of the law enforcement officers involved” and Miller’s long prison sentence.
