Michigan City Man Dies in Multi-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 20

A Michigan City man is dead and three others were hurt in a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 20 Sunday. It happened just before 6:30 p.m. at Roeske Avenue, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies believe Michael H. Murphy, 22, of Hobart was driving westbound, when his Mitsubishi SUV crossed the center turn lane and hit a Ford that was heading east. That apparently caused several other eastbound vehicles to end up crashing, as well. Police say the driver of the Ford, Malachi R. Young, 19, had to be extricated, but died before he could be taken to the hospital.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Fatal Alcohol Crash Team is investigating, and toxicology test results are pending.
