This year’s Moving Starke County Forward summer walking challenge is now underway. Between now and Labor Day, residents have the chance to compete for prizes by seeing who can walk the most.
“We’re not counting steps or miles. We’re counting minutes,” Purdue Extension Community Wellness Coordinator Debbie Mix explains. “And the reason we’re doing that is to make a more fair playing ground for those who aren’t athletic.”
This year’s challenge will use Purdue’s Get WalkIN’ program, which provides walkers with motivational emails during the course of the challenge. For more information or to sign up, email County Extension Director Julia Miller at jwickert@purdue.edu, or visit your local library to sign up and log minutes on paper.
