Oregon-Davis’s revived preschool program is seeing a considerable amount of interest. “We’re getting close to 40 kids for preschool, which is outstanding, but then when you factor in the kids who are going all day, there’s a good chance we could use two classrooms,” Superintendent Bill Bennett recently told the school board.
He said the latest round of federal COVID-19 relief could help cover the extra cost. “I can’t stress enough, I think when we’re blessed with the CARES and ESSER money and we have until 9/24 to spend that money, I think this is a great use for it,” Bennett said. “I think it was just a great time to launch the preschool. And it’s, honestly, almost exceeded my expectations.”
Bennett felt that getting kids to attend Oregon-Davis from when they start school would have a big impact in getting them to stay for the full 13 years. The school board is expected to hear more about the preschool program during this month’s regular meeting.
