Starke County Park Board Looking to Regulate Bass Lake Beach Food Trucks

The Starke County Park Board will more closely regulate food vendors at the Bass Lake Beach. Board members voted Tuesday to charge food trucks $20 per day and require a health permit and liability insurance.

Beach Manager Larry Clarich said a taco vendor has agreed to set up shop at the beach each weekend. And while it does use electricity and some water, he’s never charged vendors in the past, since they help draw in visitors.

Board members generally agreed that they don’t want to discourage vendors from selling food at the beach, but the county should see some of the revenues or at least be able to cover costs. Going forward, they want to meet with the taco vendor to discuss what kind of arrangements might work best and look at having some type of written agreement for vendors.
