Unemployment Rates Rise but More Residents Working

Starke and Pulaski County residents continue heading back to work, even as unemployment rates creep back up. Starke County’s May unemployment rate was five percent, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

That’s up from 4.9 percent the month before. Pulaski County’s unemployment rate rose from 3.4 to 3.8 percent. But more residents are joining the labor force, and the number of people believed to be employed actually increased from April to May.

The state as a whole had a non-seasonally adjusted May unemployment rate of 4.5 percent, while the national rate dipped to 5.5 percent.
