New apartment and townhome developments could soon be coming to North Judson. Kirt Verhagen is seeking zoning permission to build apartments at the southeast corner of State and George streets, along with townhomes on the southwest corner of Central and Keller avenues.
Members of the board of zoning appeals told the town council Monday that they’d like to move ahead with the request. Before it can be considered for final approval, Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe said the first step would be to hold a public hearing before the BZA. Then, the developer would have to apply for the necessary building permits.
The housing projects are just part of a list of initiatives Verhagen is proposing for North Judson. He continues to explore options for a co-working space downtown, according to Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Lisa Dan. She told the town council that efforts are also underway to secure funding for a second Business Pitch Competition in October. Close to $3,000 of the $10,000 in prize money has been raised so far.
