The Knox City Police Department has another new officer. Nicholas Brown was hired by the board of works Wednesday as a first class patrolman.
Brown is the second officer hired this month, after Ashley Vandemark was hired during a special board of works meeting July 1. Police Chief Harold Smith told board members Wednesday that Vandemark has cleared the required tests and is now in her second week of training.
The board of works also approved Smith’s recommendation to promote School Resource Officer Travis Schieber from patrolman to corporal. “Patrolman Schieber has showed motivation and leadership in his two-and-a-half years with the police department,” Smith said. “He stepped forward to assist in the daily activities and operations within the department.”
Meanwhile, Smith reported that Reserve Officer Steve VanDerAa has completed his school resource officer training. He’ll fill in while Schieber is deployed overseas.
