More Residents Working but Unemployment Rates Still Inching Up

Starke and Pulaski County residents are heading back to work, but the unemployment rates keep inching higher.

Starke County’s June unemployment rate was 5.2 percent, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. That’s up from five percent the month before. Pulaski County’s unemployment rate ticked up from 3.9 to four percent.

But more residents are joining the labor force, and the number of people believed to be employed actually increased from May to June, by about 100 in each county. The state as a whole had a non-seasonally adjusted June unemployment rate of 4.7 percent, while the national rate rose to 6.1 percent.
