The Pulaski County Justice Center expansion project is getting underway. County officials said on Facebook that fencing has been installed at the worksite, and Meridian Street is expected to close by Monday morning between the Justice Center and Courthouse. The portion next to Howard’s Marathon will remain open.
Meanwhile, a search is underway for a temporary location for the Prosecutor’s Office, which may have to move out of the Justice Center once construction starts. Project liaison Nathan Origer told the county commissioners Monday that he’s been talking to some local building owners, as Prosecutor Kelly Gaumer looks at other county facilities.
“I believe that Kelly or one of her staff have already taken a look in the Annex,” Origer said. “I haven’t checked in with her yet. There may be some space there. I’m not sure, other than setting up cubicles out here [at the Highway Garage] and working around them when we’re having meetings out here, that there are any others, but that is a possibility.”
The commissioners Monday opened a second round of bids for project components that got little or no interest the first time around. Origer said 12 qualifying bids were received for six categories. “We had three each for the two roofing subcategories: the new addition roof and the jail [roof] replacement; one for glass, glazing, and entrances; two for flooring; two for furnishing specialties; and one for landscaping,” Origer said.
The bids are now being reviewed by construction manager Tonn & Blank.
