WKVI is hosting the fourth annual Cheryl Lyn Welter Family Charitable Foundation Radiothon today. The foundation provides grants to teachers for expenses that may be out of children’s reach.
Harold Welter tells WKVI’s Charlie Adams that the foundation has awarded 110 grants totaling almost $40,000. “We had one teacher who came in on our first Radiothon, as a matter of fact, who said she was able to use grants to get a couple of her students who really had tough backgrounds into the CNA program, which could lead to an RN,” Welter said. “And she said to us, ‘These grants changed these girls’ lives.’”
He hopes to raise over $30,000 with today’s Radiothon, which would allow the foundation to increase the number of grants it awards by 50 percent.
Today’s Cheryl Lyn Welter Family Charitable Foundation Radiothon takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CDT on K99.3. Donations will be accepted at 574-772-6241 or at CherylsKidsFund.org.
