Counties Working on Concept Documents for U.S. 30 Freeway Proposal

The U.S. 30 Coalition continues working on plans to upgrade the highway to freeway standards. Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Lisa Dan recently gave an update to the county commissioners.

“Counties from Allen County all the way over to Porter County are working on concept documents to be submitted to INDOT for the freeway project,” she said, “and even though the counties provide this information to INDOT, INDOT will have the final say on how the freeway will be constructed.”

It was noted that discussions are underway on the intersection at LaPorte County Road 600 West, but talks on the State Road 23 intersection in Starke County remain on hold.

The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced a shortlist of six prospective consulting firms for planning and environmental linkage studies for the U.S. 30 and U.S. 31 corridors. The multi-year studies are expected to look at safety, mobility, and economic development opportunities, among other factors, and recommend multiple options for improvements.
