Knox School Board Hires Teacher for New Ag Program, Elementary Teacher Brought Out of Retirement

A teacher for Knox High School’s new ag program was officially hired during last week’s school board meeting.

Melvin Lenig was appointed to the position as part of the personnel report. Meanwhile, a familiar face is back at Knox Elementary School. Recently-retired teacher Tracy Harper has agreed to step in to teach first grade, following a late resignation, according to Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart.

“We won’t have to pay [retirement benefits] on her, and we won’t have to pay health insurance because her husband has that, so it’s really a pretty cheap hire, and we get a quality, quality teacher at the last minute,” Reichhart told board members. “So it’s really a win-win for us and for our kids.”

The arrangement also let school administrators avoid consolidating classrooms and increasing class sizes.
