The 2020 Census showed population declines in Marshall and Pulaski counties, but Starke County’s population held steady. Marshall County lost 956 residents from 2010 to 2020, according to data released last week, for a new population of 46,095. That’s a two-percent drop.
The rate of population loss was even faster in Pulaski County. It lost 6.6 percent of its 2010 population or 888 residents, leaving Pulaski County’s population at 12,514. Starke County, on the other hand, gained eight residents, for a new total of 23,371.
The percentage of residents who identified as Hispanic or Latino is over 11 in Marshall County and just under four percent in Starke and Pulaski counties. About 98 percent of Starke and Pulaski County residents identified as white in 2020, either alone or in combination with another race. In Marshall County, that percentage was just over 93.
