Oregon-Davis School Board Reviews Salary Comparisons

O-D Superintendent Bill Bennett presents salary comparisons to the school board Monday.

The Oregon-Davis School Board is taking a closer look at how its pay levels compare to surrounding school districts’. Superintendent Bill Bennett presented salary comparisons during Monday’s meeting.

“One of my dilemmas in the first couple years in the superintendency is trying to get people to fill our positions,” he said. “Right now, I feel like we have a pretty good grasp on things. We still have some areas where we still have openings.”

Bennett noted that O-D’s teacher salaries are below those of its neighbors, while its principal salaries are near the median. But he said that teacher compensation is actually closer to the middle, when the corporation’s contribution to their health insurance is included.

Oregon-Davis is also below average for almost all categories of support staff. Bennett said a particular struggle has been with filling custodial positions, with two full-time and one part-time position currently open. He’d also like to add a new tier to the paraprofessional pay scale for aides whose responsibilities are closer to those of teachers, even though they aren’t licensed.

School Board President Kyle Hinds agreed that some categories should be adjusted going forward.
