Plans are moving ahead for an animal control facility at the Pulaski County Recycling and Transfer Station. Sheriff Jeff Richwine told the county commissioners Monday that he’s working on outfitting the old salt barn to house dogs.
“We need to put some doggy doors in the building,” Richwine said. “I told [Animal Control Officer] Stephanie [Schulze] today, I said I would pay for that out of Commissary, and she’s ordered the kennels today. So we’ll have the kennels. We’ll just need to get four doors put into that building.”
Richwine said the animal control officer will be able to access water from the facility’s shop building.
In other business Monday, the commissioners approved the retirement of Sheriff’s Office K-9 Thor. Sheriff Richwine explained that his handler, Aaron Heims, was promoted to detective, and at Thor’s age, it wasn’t worth retraining him with another deputy. But a new K-9 is joining the force, working with Deputy Cody Foust.
