Starke County Community Foundation Presents $1,500 Grant for Bass Lake Kayak Rental

Starke County Park Board President Richard Ballard, County Attorney Marty Lucas, and board members Kathy Norem, Rik Ritzler, and Karl Swihart accept a $1,500 grant from Starke County Community Foundation Director of Development Jacque Ryan.

Funding for a Bass Lake Beach kayak rental was recently presented to the Starke County Park Board. Starke County Community Foundation Director of Development Jacque Ryan presented a giant check during last month’s park board meeting. “This grant specifically is for $1,500 for the kayaks and paddle boards for Bass Lake,” she said.

It’s just the most recent in a series of grants for the Starke County Park Board. Ryan noted that the community foundation has awarded the board a total of almost $84,000 from its funds since 2018. On top of that, the Veterans Memorial Maintenance Fund paid out $19 in its first year, an amount that should grow significantly over time.

“And it’s money that comes from the community that we’re able to help grow into something more,” Ryan added. “It starts with people who are charitable right here in Starke County, so that’s what I think is really great.”

Board Member Kathy Norem said the foundation has “pumped a lot of money into Starke County” that it would not otherwise have gotten.
