Replacing the Bass Lake Campground’s electrical system could cost over $250,000. Electrician Bob Harper with H&T Electrical Services was recently asked to put together some recommendations.
During last month’s regular Starke County Park Board meeting, Harper said the current system is older and has suffered from lackluster maintenance, as well as poor workmanship on the components that have been added over the years. Rather than adding capacity to the current system, he felt it would be better to start over.
Harper said the project could take place over the next 10 to 20 years, but board member Kathy Norem hoped it could be done more quickly. “I think some of that’s going to be dictated by our five-year plan, but I certainly don’t think we’d have to spend 20 years to get that electric upgraded,” Norem said. “One way or the other, we’re going to have to take care of that.”
Board Member Rik Ritzler felt the electrical upgrade would be a good candidate for grant funding.
