The Hamlet Lions Club has gotten a $1,000 boost. It was chosen as the recipient of the Starke County Community Foundation’s August popup grant.
The foundation says its Ambassadors’ Club of former board members and the current board president chose the Lions Club “because of the numerous ways they offer support.” Those include giving dictionaries to Oregon-Davis third graders, roadside cleanups, scholarships, and its eyeglasses recycling program. The club also recently raised money to provide protective vests for EMS personnel.
The community foundation surprised Lions Club members with a $1,000 check last week at the Starke County Fairgrounds Eat Stand. The monthly popup grants are part of the Starke County Community Foundation’s 25th anniversary celebration, but they’re expected to continue beyond 2021.
