Unemployment rates continue to drop in Starke and Pulaski counties. Starke County’s rate dropped from five percent in July to 4.4 percent in August, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
Pulaski County’s unemployment rate dropped from 3.5 to 3.2 percent. Compared to a year ago, those rates are down by more than two percent.
But in Pulaski County, the number of residents working has also dropped, with 6,000 believed to be employed in August. That’s almost 150 fewer residents than the month before, and it’s also slightly lower than August of 2020, when the unemployment rate was two-and-a-half percent higher.
The local unemployment rates remain lower than the national rate. The U.S. had a non-seasonally adjusted August unemployment rate of 5.3 percent. Indiana’s rate was four percent.
