West Central School Board Holds Hearing on 2022 Budget

No comments were offered on the West Central School Corporation’s 2022 budget proposal during a public hearing earlier this month, according to Superintendent Dan Zylstra. “The budget is shaping up to be similar to last year’s with some discussion about more HVAC repairs and other things related to the infrastructure of the building,” he explains.

The proposed budget totals just over $9.6 million, including an Education Fund of more than $4.8 million and an Operations Fund of almost $3.6 million. It’ll be up for adoption next week.

Meanwhile, West Central’s cafeteria staff will now be able to take part in the Public Employee Retirement Fund, following the school board’s approval. “They hadn’t been set up for that prior to this,” Zylstra says, “and we decided that we should add them to that.”

Zylstra also says there was a slight increase in the school corporation’s liability insurance premium. The school board officially signed off on the rates for the coming year.
