The Pulaski County Council discussed plans this week to have a new roof put on the Highway Department.
Pulaski County Community Development Commission (CDC) Executive Director Nathan Origer addressed the council about architects bidding on the project. Right now the experienced licensed roofing contractors will be looking into what damage has occurred to the roof since it has been leaking for some time.
The anticipated estimate from Tonn and Blank Construction to have the roof fixed was set at $200,000.
Origer commented, “We got a very rough ballpark estimate, very broad between $75,000 and $115,000 based on the square footage from Tonn and Blank. So, that was our baseline and then added on the cost of the design and engineer and then if they don’t spend it we just put some cushion so if bids do come in above where we expect, we are ready for that. We had Tonn and Blank give us a ballpark estimate so that we had a starting point.”
Origer mentioned the dimensions of the roof in question are 90 feet by 120 feet. He said legally the county should have professional plans and specifications drawn before advertising bids for the project. Origer added that $200,000 needs to be allocated before any work is done.
The council approved the $200,000 additional appropriation with a majority vote.
