The Pulaski County Commissioners have approved new ambulance rates presented by Brandon DeLorenzo at Tuesday’s commissioner’s meeting. The Ambulance Billing Services identified commercial insurance carriers with reimbursement rates greater than the current charges. They believe there is an opportunity to increase the Pulaski County EMS revenue.
The ambulance fee recommendation will not have any financial impact on Medicare, Medicaid or up to 50% of all patients. Individuals with no insurance or those that use a supplemental payment source will be billed privately and these patients will receive a larger bill.
Ambulance mileage for residents will be $18. ALS 1 services will range from $1,000 to $1,300 for residents. BLS services will range from $800 to $950, ALS 2 services will be $1,500, and specialty care transport will be $1,800 to $2,000. Charges for services will be $100 higher for non-residents.
A small percentage of the population uses ambulance services each year and less than 30% of Pulaski County patients would be impacted by an increase.
The rates will go in effect August 1.
