Starke County Court Services Reports Less Revenue

Starke County Court Services Director Shawn Mattraw presented an American Rescue Plan Act request of $7,000 to the Starke County Council and Commissioners last week.

Director Mattraw said with the increasing cost of insurance coverage, the budget allocated for the remainder of the year would not be enough to cover the cost. He added the decrease in the offender population due to the pandemic has put a strain on the budget.

He requested the approval of $7,000 to be able to cover the rise in insurance.

Starke County Council President Dave Pearman commented that this is a deficit caused by the Starke County Court Services revenue being down. He added that this would fall under the category of lost revenue and the requested funds should come from that.

The commissioners and council agreed and passed a motion to grant the $7,000 to Director Mattraw.
