The Starke County Commissioners and Starke County Council members heard and update on the search for a new park superintendent this week. As of Monday, July 18, seven or eight applicants have applied since last week.

Additionally, Park Board President Richard Ballard said they need to hire more employees at Bass Lake Beach. He mentioned that raising the hourly rate for part-time employees would potentially help attract new hires.
As of now, the part time hourly rate is $11.07. After 90 days, it goes to $13.50. Ballard added that starting at $11.07 isn’t attracting new hires this late in the season.
The Starke County Council members discussed the problem and decided to start the part-time hourly rate at $13.50 since the summer season is nearly at an end.
