North Judson Town Council Updated on Proposed Housing Project

The North Judson Town Council viewed a presentation and heard from property owner Kirt Verhagen Monday night about the proposed apartments on State Street and George Street.

Verhagen mentioned the survey showed the roadway actually extends into the vacant lot on State Street 16 feet. He added there is no road there and that it extends into the area he would be building on.

“There’s a 25-foot setback per North Judson Code,” said Verhagen. “If I had permission to build closer to the lot line, I would still be 25 feet away from State Street. Then I would be about 10 feet away from the lot line. One of the reasons that I would like to do this is it gives me better use of the entire property as it gives me more room to build more apartments behind these.”

Verhagen went on to explain concrete driveways would be at each apartment’s garage. He said he would like to extend those 25 feet toward State Street.

North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe said Verhagen would need to get an appeal together and present it to the Board of Zoning Appeals. North Judson Town Attorney Justin Schramm noted it would fall along the same lines of a Use Variance.

The council advised Verhagen to present his presentation with his appeal to the BZA when complete.
