The North Judson Town Council heard from Kris Krouse of the Shirley Heinze Land Trust during their Monday night meeting.
The Shirley Heinze Land Trust works to preserve and restore natural lands and waters in Northwestern Indiana.
Krouse stated that in 2012 they found out that Starke County did not have a land trust organization working in the county to help with its conservation. He added one of the opportunities that came up in Starke County was to preserve some land within a few miles outside of North Judson.
He added the land in question is owned privately with several hundred acres, making it the home to over 1,000 different species.
Krouse said the Shirley Heinze Land Trust developed a next level conservation trust grant application in partnership with the owners of the land to help conserve the area.
The council was pleased to hear the progress being made and also to learn about the Shirley Heinze Land Trust and how they are wanting to step up in helping Starke County conservation.
