The North Judson Town Council discussed the Utility Rate Study Monday night that was conducted by Baker Tilly Municipal Advisors.
David Dominguez from Baker Tilly was present to explain the suggested three-phase rate increase to the town’s water and sewer rates.
He said phase one rates are proposed to be raised by 6.5%, while phase two would increase 8% and phase three increase 5.18%. Dominguez added the rates will start to go up in October or November if the council decides to move forward.
North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe said in a previous report that the rates were being looked at to see if any adjustments needed to be made to fulfill obligations concerning water and sewer bonds for recent projects. He noted the council is also reviewing other rates for possible adjustment including tap fees, use of the jet vac, and labor fees. He said a public hearing would need to be scheduled as part of the process to move forward with the increases.
The council members took the study under advisement and plan to discuss the recommendations by Baker Tilly at their next meeting on Monday, August 29.
