North Judson Town Council Discusses Contract for Private Network for First Responders

The North Judson Town Council discussed creating a wireless network for the county’s first responders. The council mentioned internet bandwidth can slow down during times of the day more people are using the internet.

The Fire Department, EMS, Police Department, Highway Department, Health Department, Prosecuting Attorney’s offices and Probation offices were talked about being on their own private network. This was discussed as helping these departments communicate during times of low internet connection.

The council added Starke County is already doing this through Verizon and that making it viable for the town of North Judson would help.

A contract would be needed to have the network put together with the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet). FirstNet is an independent authority within the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. The purpose of FirstNet is to establish, operate, and maintain an interoperable public safety broadband network.

It was announced that it would be relatively inexpensive to go into the contract.

The council took the report under advisement and will continue discussions at a future meeting.
