The Knox Board of Works heard an update on the Main Street fire from this past June during their meeting last week.
Director of Building, Planning and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost informed the board they have received the structural engineer’s report. He added they can now proceed with the demolition and that the owner of the building had been notified. He said the 10-day notice was given on November 15. The demolition is expected to begin this week.
During the Knox City Council meeting the night prior, Knox Mayor Dennis Estok said Dale Shannon is the contractor from the community that offered the use of his personally-owned excavator to use for the clean up. He added the city is thankful for his generosity.
In a previous meeting, Mayor Estok stated the city will have to pay for the demolition. He added once the clean-up is finished, the city would look toward taking the issue to court in order to get the city’s out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed.
