Ordinance to Abolish Knox City Court Tabled

The Knox City Council continued discussions on an ordinance Wednesday night that would abolish Knox City Court.

Knox Mayor Dennis Estok said previously that the council has been talking about abolishment of the City Court for two years. He added this year the county was made aware of the council’s intention.

Previous council conversations on the topic indicated that City Court is not financially self-sustaining.

During Wednesday’s discussion, Mayor Estok mentioned they had not been able to get with the Starke County Council to talk things over. He added a date has been set for Friday, November 18 with the city and county councils as well as City Court and Circuit Court in hopes to find a solution.

The council unanimously approved a motion to table the second reading until further discussions happen at the November 18 meeting.
