The Starke County Commissioners received a proposal from Core Facilities President Matt Stechly during their meeting Monday night.
At the previous meeting, Stechly was present to discuss four projects he deemed the county would need to have done within several of the county’s buildings. In that meeting the commissioners approved a motion to allow Stechly to get the discussed projects presented at a future meeting.
During Monday’s meeting Stechly presented quotes, a proposal and contract to the commissioners. The commissioners were then advised by the Starke County attorney to wait until some research could be done on the counties Responsible Bidders Ordinance as well as the quote, proposal and contract from Core Facilities.
The commissioners advised Stechly to return to the next County Council meeting and discuss his plans with them as well. Stechly said he would be at that meeting to explain to the council what Core Facilities does and what they can potentially save the county in terms of costs.
Starke County Attorney Justin Schramm told WKVI News after researching the Responsible Bidders Ordinance passed in 2017, it appears that Starke County does not require bidding service contracts. He added if both the council and the commissioners would like to move forward with Core Facilities, they would be allowed to award the contract.
